HK Trip 2015 (Day 4)

July 28th, 2015

On my 4th day in Hong Kong, we went to Ocean Park. It took 15-20 mins (HKD 57) from our hotel in Causeway Bay by taxi. Since we are a group of 10 people, it's cheaper and faster to go there by taxi than citybus. The ticket price for Ocean Park are HKD 345 for adult and HKD 173 for child.

We arrived at 10 am, and it was scorching hot.

HK Trip 2015 (Day 1)

July 25th, 2015

Two months ago I went to HK to attend my cousin's wedding. The date is after my final exam, so it was a perfect time to celebrate and vacation! After searching and browsing for a few months, I found a few places to eat and shop.

And for you who like me ;) who need a prepaid sim card with data plan, you can buy it at 1010 store at the airport. From what I read, one2free seems like a good deal. I plan to buy the 5 days pass (HKD 88) but at the end I used other sim card because my uncle had already bought it.

And if you plan to use a lot of MTR or bus, you can also buy octopus card at the airport. Just buy the standard octopus card for HKD 150 (deposit HKD 50, stored value HKD 100), and at the end of your trip you can exchange your card to get your deposit and the remaining value back.

Get to the city? How? I think the easiest way is to use a cab. But you can also use Airport Express, for single journey to/from airport:

Pantene Beautiful Lengths

26 April '15

A few months ago, when I was at my friend's house, I saw her sister, and I was in awe with her long hair. It turns out that she waited for her hair to grow that long because she wants to donate it. But at that time I didn't think too much about it.

Some time later, when I was looking at pictures on instagram, I stumbled upon the Pantene Beautiful Lengths hashtag, and I ended up at their website.

" Hair That Brings Hope

Beautiful Lengths is a partnership between Pantene® and the American Cancer Society®, the largest nonprofit health organization committed to saving lives from every cancer and improving the quality of life for people facing the disease. The role of Pantene is to help women grow long, strong, beautiful hair and to provide the funds to turn this hair into free, real-hair wigs for women with cancer. So far, Pantene has donated 24,000 free real-hair wigs to the American Cancer Society’s wig banks, which distribute wigs to cancer patients across the country. "

It made me think about the people around me who have/had cancer, how they lose their hair little by little until they eventually lose it all and need to wear a hat at home or wear a wig when in public.

" To us, it’s hair, but to women with cancer, it’s hope "

So I decided to grow my hair a little bit longer, so I can donate it and maybe someday when my hair with the others are made into a wig, someone can feel a little bit better and happier,

and finally I got my hair cut today!

If you'd like to participate, you can click the link about the hair requirements and how to donate! :)

We can " try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud ". :)

18 Feb '15

Arrived in Sydney last night, super tired so we woke up at noon. Went to the supermarket to bought groceries for our super late lunch. Then I saw korean instant 5 grains rice ($1.8) on the shelf, told myself that I have to buy it (and I'm glad I did). We had steak, grilled halloumi, sweet corn and spinach salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing.

Melbourne 2015 (Day 7)

17 Feb'15

On our way to The Hardware Societe we saw this pretty store, La Belle Miette. They are specialising in macarons and they're famous for it, so my sister told me to try, but since I'm not fond of macarons I passed.

Enmaru - Altitude The Plaza

4 April '15

It was Saturday and Enmaru have this Brunch Package every weekend and public holiday from 11am-3pm.

Price: 350k++ ( free flow iced or hot ocha included)
175k++ (for children 4-10 years old)

The brunch menu on their page include special menu, where each pax is eligible to order 1 of their 4 special menu. But when I went there, they said that the special menu was already omitted.

The place was quite spacious and have a nice view of the city. Their service was also good, the one who served us were very polite, yet friendly and helpful.

The food:

Appetizer

Edamame (boiled soybean)
Gyu Shabu Salad (cold shabu shabu beef salad served with sesame sauce)
Foie Gras Chawanmushi (steamed egg custard with foie gras)
Iwanori Dashimaki Tamago (japanese omelette with seaweed)
From the appetizer I like their Gyu Shabu Salad the best, it was surprisingly refreshing, love their tangy sauce! The Iwanori Dashimaki Tamago was also good, it was soft and tasty. I didn't really like the Chawanmushi, soft custard but their sauce was kinda sweet.

Sashimi & Sushi

Shake & Maguro & Mekajiki (assorted 3 kinds of sashimi, salmon, tuna and swordfish)
Ika Sumi Roll (squid ink rolled rice with cream cheese and deep fried chicken topping)
Nigiri Sushi Moriawase (assorted 6 kinds of nigiri sushi, salmon, tuna, squid, omelette, boiled shrimp and fresh eel water)
Didn't try the moriawase and sashimi. But the squid ink roll was nice, with no fishy smell.

Soup

Aka Dashi (japanese soup made with red miso paste)
Charcoal Grill

They gave us the charcoal grill, so you can reheat the skewers by yourself.

     - Grilled Chicken

Tori Momo Negi Kushiyaki (grilled chicken skewers with chopped leek /2pcs)
Tori Momo Spicy Miso Sauce Kushiyaki (grilled chicken skewers with spicy miso sauce/2pcs)
Tori Momo Basil Sauce Kushiyaki (grilled chicken skewers with basil sauce/2pcs)
Tori Momo Mentaiko Mayo Kushiyaki (grilled chicken skewers with cod fish roe and mayonnaise sauce/2pcs)

Not a fan of chicken thight, so ....

     - Tsukune

Tsukune Tare Kushiyaki (grilled minced chicken ball skewers with sweet soy sauce/2pcs)
Tsukune Cheese Kushiyaki (grilled minced chicken ball skewers with sweet soy sauce topped with cheese/2pcs)
Tsukune Okonomiyaki Mayo Kushiyaki (grilled minced chicken ball skewers with okonomi sauce and mayonnaise/2pcs)
The chicken ball was too soft for my liking, but if you want to try, I think the one with okonomi sauce was better.

     - Buta Bara

Buta Bara Oroshi Ponzu Kushiyaki (grilled pork belly skewers with grated radish and ponzu sauce/2pcs)
Buta Bara Wasabi Kushiyaki (grilled pork belly skewers with wasabi sauce/2pcs)
Buta Bata Ichimi Kushiyaki (grilled pork belly skewers with red pepper/2pcs)
But since I'm a fan of pork belly, I like this one better than the other 2 skewers (tori momo & tsukune), I got sick of eating those chickens, but not this one :p I like the one with wasabi sauce the most.

     - Others

Nin Niku Shoyu Zuke Kushiyaki (grilled marinated garlic in soy sauce skewers)
Yaki Imo Kushiyaki (grilled sweet potato skewers with maple syrup)
Eringi (grilled eringi mushroom)

Main

Ebi Tempura (deep fried shrimp tempura / 3pcs)
Salmon Teriyaki (grilled salmon dress with teriyaki sauce)
Zuke Kalbi (stir-fried marinated beef and vegetables)
Gyusuji Aka Wine Nikomi (trimmed beef stew with red wine)
Buta Kakuni Wasabi Potato An (braised pork belly with soy sauce and sugar, topped with wasabi mashed potato)
The tempura looked oily, but my mom said it was good. The salmon teriyaki and beef stew were also good but nothing special. Their Zuke Kalbi was the best among the other mains, it was really tender and tasty. The braised pork belly was quite tender, but the mashed potato wasn't that smooth.

Dessert

Mix Fruits (assorted fruits)
Houjicha Brulee (Japanese roasted green tea custard pudding)
Baked Yuzu Cheese Cake (baked japanese cheese cake with yuzu)
Ice Cream (Maccha/Japanese green tea)
Black Sesame Ice Cream
Lemon Sorbet and Red Bean Ice Cream
Ice Cream Zenzai (Kuro Goam) - mochi and red bean sauce with a choice of ice cream (black sesame)
The Houjicha Brulee was soft and not too sweet, and I love how the the caramelized sugar wasn't that thick. The baked cheese cake was dense and creamy, love it! Their ice cream was also quite good. The lemon sorbet was really sour, but addictive.

We had a great time and a good meal. Thank you bro for the treat! :*
